No. The Bradshaw Animal Shelter is currently closed to walk in-traffic. However, license renewal walk-ins are available on a limited basis from 12PM to 4:30PM Tuesday thru Sunday (except holidays), and most our regular services are now available by appointment and online. Face covering and social distancing are required during your visit.

We are processing adoptions for dogs, cats, kittens, rabbits and other pets by appointment only. 

Please follow the steps below: ​

  • Step 1: Visit​ to see all available pets and write down the 7- digit animal number of the pet(s) you are interested in (up to 3 pets allowed). 
  • Step 2: Call 916-875-2287 (between 9:30am and 3:30pm, except Mondays and ​Holidays) to​ schedule an adoption appointment with a shelter representative.
  • Step 3: Visit the shelter during your scheduled appointment. 
    • Bring a valid I.D. 
    • $50 Adoption fee (cash/credit/debit accepted)​​

If your pet is at the Bradshaw Animal Shelter, please visit us at 3839 Bradshaw Road between 8AM and 4PM, 7 days a week. Owner redemptions are being processed at the Admission Door. We are currently accepting stray pets from the unincorporated Sacramento County at the Admission Door between 8AM and 4PM, 7 days a week. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento, CA. Call 311 for help determining the correct shelter jurisdiction​. ​

If you find a stray pet in the community, the best option is to try and reunite the pet with its' owner. For more details on how to reunite pets with their owners and a list of resources, visit the Have you found my pet?​ section on the Lost and Found Pet Page

Owners of lost pets should visit​ and follow the steps at the top of the page. Our list of lost pets currently at the shelter is updated every 30 minutes.

UPDATE October 2021: The RTF program is currently closed to intake due to lack of space and surgery appointment availability, but will reopen in a limited capacity on October 23, 2021. However, we are accepting sick, injured, pregnant, and motherless neonate cats/kittens at the admission door. We appreciate your patience at this time will update this page as we open up for intake. Please check back for updates.


Our RTF program is open with the following requirements: 

  • Up to two cats per person, per week
  • Drop off days/times are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday between the hours of 10:30am and 4:00pm at the intake door (left of adoption doors)
  • Pick up dates are generally the day after surgery, please check with staff
  • Cats must be from the unincorporated Sacramento County

Yes. The Bark Park remains open and is considered an outdoor activity. Mandatory guidelines for outdoor activities including face covering and the practice of social distancing can be found at​.

The shelter is always grateful for donations and a list of items can be found by visiting Due to limited walk-in hours, donation drop-offs are permitted at the intake door to the left of the adoption doors. You may call 3-1-1 during your donation drop-off to let our staff know you have arrived. To help with special medical needs, monetary donations made payable to the shelter’s non-profit affiliate, T.E.A.M. are always appreciated. Yes. Licenses are being processed online, by mail and via walk-ins. 

  • Online: Renew your license online at
  • By Mail: Send a completed application, check, proof of spay/neuter, and proof of rabies vaccination* to: Bradshaw Animal Shelter, 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento, CA 95827 
  • Walk-In: License purchases will be processed on a limited basis from 12PM to 4:30PM Tuesday thru Sunday at the shelter, except holidays. Current rabies certificate is required.* Licenses are $15 for altered pets and $50 for unaltered pets. 
*If you are unable to provide proof of a current rabies vaccination at this time, please pay your licensing fee and a temporary license will be issued. You will be able to provide proof of rabies vaccination at a later date via email at​. ​

Citations can be cleared via walk-ins at the shelter from 12PM to 4:30PM Tuesday thru Sunday, except holidays.

In these unprecedented times due to COVID-19, many people are facing the possibility of foreclosure or eviction, extreme financial hardship, and the heartbreaking reality of having to rehome their pets. We understand that rehoming your pet is sometimes the hardest thing you'll ever have to do. If you are a dog or cat owner who has been evicted or displaced by COVID-19, or have encountered extreme financial hardship, and can no longer care for your pet, the Bradshaw Animal Shelter is here to help! If needed, you may surrender the animal to us, and we will do everything we can to rehome the animal through our adoption program. A $50 surrender fee applies. In instances of extreme financial hardship, a waiver of this $50 surrender fee will be considered. Please email our staff at for assistance.

  • Pet owners in need may pick up food once a month Tuesday through Sunday between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
